Thanks for letting us know Maj Marty Hogan that November 22 is the anniversary of the birth of French general and statesman Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle.
As the leaders of the Free French in WWII he leveraged the good will and resources of the allies as he fought against the Germans to free France. Later he was a thorn in the side of US foreign policy as he did his best to make France the leader of the free world in everything from Cannes replacing Hollywood to French food and wine being trumpeted as the best :-)

DeGaulle: cable to General de Lattre " My dear General, you must cross the Rhine, even if the Americans do not help you and you are obliged to use rowboats....Karlsruhe and Stuttgart await you, even if they do not want you." and that is pretty much what de Lattre had to do. General Eisenhower considered DeGaulle his biggest pain during the war( one would have thought Montgomery) and that is saying much about their relationship. A lot of WWII veterans never got over him entering Paris first, which I agree, was too much politics.
