I wish that more people studied the situation in Japan in those final days of the war. Maybe then there would be less debate, less recrimination over Truman's decision and the act of dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Following both bombs, the Imperial high command persisted in their attempts to continue the war. Knowing that the command would attempt to block the broadcast of the Emperor's message of capitulation, the technicians made two copies so that if one were intercepted, the other would reach the radio station and be broadcast.

Yes, it's sad that so many "innocent" civilians had to suffer, but if the Emperor's message had been blocked, many more, millions perhaps, would have died, including countless Americans.
