Salinas was part of the first gender-integrated officer training program. When discussing basic training, Salinas said, “I had to learn that there was no me. Better to have the team succeed and you just be a part of that team.”
Her growth in leadership during her service pinnacled when she became the first Hispanic woman to be a brigadier general in the Corps in 2006 and the first woman to command the Marine Corps Depot (western recruiting region) in San Diego.
