Thanks Maj Marty Hogan that March 3 is the anniversary of the birth of pioneering African-American minister, academic and African nationalist Alexander Crummell who was ordained as an Episcopal priest in the United States and went to England in the late 1840s to raise money for his church by lecturing about American slavery.
By that point the slave trade had long been outlawed in the British Isles which ensured new slaves were not being sent to the USA. That forces the slave states to redistribute slaves as technology improved tobacco crop planting and harvesting.

His establishment of Liberia as a haven for freed and escaped slaves is laudable. Sadly his dream was not fulfilled in his lifetime.
Rest in eternal peace Alexander Crummell.

"The remarkable story of Alexander Crummell -- the son of a slave -- who was one of the first black students to study at Cambridge."
