Airmen volunteered to repair a WWII B-29 Superfortress ... and it's going to fly again

The B_29 was requested originally by MY commanding GENERAL LEMAY, when I served
in the USAF. FINE Man, chewed the hell out of that cigar, this man, & all knew HE was not going to loose, because HE had AMERICA,s BACK! We remember the name FATMAN, & LITTLE BOY, those were the names of the first atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima, & Nagasaki, JAPAN from this very American bomber. This aircraft saved a lot of Americans lives. LEMAY originally ordered dropping firebombs over certain Japanese cities, after that plan didn't work as He thot the US came up with the first A BOMB. the name of the B_29 that dropped the first bomb on NAGASAKI, WAS ANOLA GAY, that was the name of the pilots Mother, this also was the first bomber that would clime to altitude without oxygen mask, which the whole crew enjoyed, I heard that was a request of LEMAY. THIS MAN WOULD BE FOLLOWED INTO HELL FIRE BY HIS MEN!. When I was sent to SYRACUSE NY The base Chow hall was open 24/7 for his personnel. GOD BLESS HIS SOUL.

Enlisted ON My 17th Birthday 0/6/29/1961, And DD-214'd OUT On 06/10/65 ~~ 19 Days Short Of Legally Buying A Beer @, 21. ~ We Saw The Cold War, Cuban Crisis, Bay Of Pigs Fk-Up, Vietnam & The Assassination Of President John F. Kennedy. .. And With ALL That, I Was Never Deployed Into A Combat Situation.... And I Always DID Wondered "What If"?

Yes sir, I joined up in April 60, sent to Biloxi MS for 6 wks.(training) then to BURNS AF station on top of a mountain Radar site, after 24 months at Burns, then retrained in Syracuse NY for another 6 wks., then sent to Bergan Feldt, passing a/c info to the USAF radar sites GERMANY, to help the German air Traffic control ID aircraft flying in & out of the free zone. On one occasion, we had a near war situation, when a British Aircraft was reporting that they were over a certified point on the border of CHECESLOVAKIA, & They were badly mistaken, We intercepted the a/c as friendly, & escorted him back to London.
A short time after that I was working mid shifts, & was awakened about 1300 hrs, & informed PRESIDENT KENNEDY HAD BEEN Assassinated. AFTER all of that I was given a 90 day earlier out. You know we also had to worry about as REAGAN said Tear down this wall. The BERLIN WALL was a long wall up & down all of EUROPE. I received my Honorable discharge in April 1966, because I had originally signed up for 6 years, only 4 years were enforced, I could have been recalled to active duty within that remain 2 yrs.

Amn Roger Omberg Unfortunately that museum doesn't exist anymore due to the owner making a bad decision that cost him his life, and apparently there was really bad blood between him and his widowed wife who made a point to shut the museum down in her best effort to erase his name.

Thankfully though the cast majority of the exhibits were able to be transferred to another museum.

AND if I may, a loving heart for FREEDOM.

Or to fly the aircraft, just cables and pulleys.
