COL Mikel J. Burroughs Third Grade, Cleveland, OH 1943. A blonde kid in my class used yellow pencils as knitting needles to knit afghan squares for coverlets for the troops. A class period must have been devoted to knitting those ?4 inch squares. We would be let out of school to scrounge for tin cans and any other metal to be used in the "war effort".

I love these stories and I love telling them. My love began when I was chief of Awards and Decorations for the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. I read every recommendation to a panel of senior offers who voted on the appropriate award for each. I had a team of writers to help write the citations. But the recommendations for the Medal of Honor were my domain and I wrote those myself. Now I write stories that veterans tell me. One of my favorites is about an Atomic Veteran.

You're correct COL Mikel J. Burroughs . These men and women of earlier times were made of sterner stuff. Hopefully we have more hiding in the weeds to protect the delicate little flowers that now populate American campuses.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, great story, sir! I totally agree with Mrs. Burquest's opinion - Vietnam Veterans did not get the treatment they deserved. Not by far. At least America is now taking the steps to fix that despicable portion of our history.
