The mention of the elephant grass I can relate to and a height that hid even the enemy standing upright as they advance in the grass. Some of our own perimeter area at Da Nang had that grass and You could even cut Yourself on the edge of the tall growth. At least We were in fortified, defended positions and not operating in the grass where the Special Forces were which isn't a complaint at all. I'd rather defend a compound or base than go out there to find Charles or the NVA. We did make some sweeps outside our perimeter but never as far away as those guys had to do. My salute to them and the other grunts out there.
