Even given the standards of the time are nothing like today, they pulled off a a great deception.

Would you believe an American commander showed them how by proving it to the American military it could be done and the local japs passed the info on to the jap military.

It's amazing what they were able to conceal and they did a great job of it. We were hampered by funding our isolationist leanings. Which I can't speak to as it was the times they lived in.
I think had Yamamoto survived the war, I believe he would have been a great ally for us. His tactical and technical knowledge was amazing and we all know he really didn't want a war, at least a long war, with us.

Interesting read of the lengths they took, but we all know it worked pretty well with few exceptions. Our Carriers were not at Pearl for the attack, and they didn't destroy two very important assets, the dry docks and fuel supplies.
