The News reported the lights on the Towe were inoperable several days ago, but I could see them in the video as the chopper approached the tower. Also operating under 600 feet the Pilot should have researched the area for obstacles that were in the vicinity, he should have known, I suspect he lost the tower lights in the mass of lights on the horizon.

Yup...any licensed pilot knows what the highest obstruction is in their flight path and stay above it unless they are a crop duster. Sounds like pilot error to me. RIP

This is sad considering the software and tools now available in aviation. I do not believe I would be flying that low if a tower was close by as my flight instructor put a fear of God in me relating towers.
