When I got a tour of the USS Missouri the inside of those gun mounts probably impressed me more than anything else.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen We still have 5 Inch Guns but they are fully automated therefore just enough room to put hands into them for maintenance. I do remember when I started there was still One Man 5 inch Guns but that and I are Ancient History!

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - there are some of us who still remember the 5"/38 and the later 5"/54 although I was fond of the 3"/50

Those 5"/38's were used on everything from battleships down to destroyers. On a Destroyer those were the big guns, on a battleship they were "Secondary" armament and a giant step down from the 16" guns.
