Lt Col Charlie Brown I heard they are stopping people at the border to see if they are residents or why they are coning into the state. It's going to take years to rebuild. I consider myself so lucky all we got was a tree on our house and no real damage. Many in this area saw their house literally float away.

Friends in SC had a tree wipe out their deck but just missed the house, it was big enough it would have completely crushed any part of the house it fell on.

They are just now completed the last of the rebuilds from the 2022 Flood event that mirrored the flooding there. Less rain, very short duration and very small watersheds. But they didn't have to deal with all of the downed trees either.

I am grateful for all my friends who escaped the real catastrophe that this storm inflicted. I am dealing with people in shelters in Georgia who lost everything

It reminds me in many ways of the storm in 1994 that camped over Georgia for about 4 days. The dames in middle and south GA burst and caused major downstream damage and flooding. Houston County GA was an island for a few days, even I-75 was closed.
What happened in the areas hit by Helene was, IMHO, even worse.
