Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the September 29th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). Today's image is a different perspective on the Pleiades (Seven Sisters)...at least it is for me. There are three wavelengths of infrared light coming from the star cluster: 24, 12, and 4.6 microns. These data sets are mapped to a visible red, green, and blue respectively. The patterns that emerge from this treatment of the data are seen in the original photo. See the 'dusty' sisters?
Now mouse over the image on the APOD. The Seven Sisters pop into their 'visible' presentation to Earth-bound viewers. The Pleiades lie about 450 light years away in the constellation Taurus (The Bull).

The Sisters was always one of the galactic points of interest i used when working with the Boy Scouts on their Merit Badges.
