Unfortunately, the Guard has become the 'go to' force for everything under the sun, the perception of 'ill-conceived' may vary based on your political persuasion.

My state leadership lost my support when they activated troops for state active duty (SAD) to man hospitals during covid. It wasn't the health providers working that I had a problem with. It was the Soldiers doing menial tasks like hospital laundry, lawn maintenance, and trash duties. That's not what we signed up for.

Yes Sir but in my state the 68Ws were able to function as medical personnel and work the shot clinics.

MSG (Join to see) So did mine. The non-medical folks got stuck being laundry detail and yard care. Granted, Infantry and Cav don't get the glamorous tasks, but come on. The hospital already had those maintenance folks on payroll. They didn't need Guardsmen.

Agree with you on that. They could have been used in a better capacity.
