SFC Kouma manned an M26 Pershing tank like this one while assigned to Co. A, 72d Tank Bn., 2d Inf. Div., when the NKPA tried to breach the Naktong River line on the night of 31 Aug. 1950. Wounded in the foot and later in the leg, he was credited with killing some 250 NKPA soldiers around his position and giving his unit time to reform and prevent a breakthrough. He received the DSC and two Purple Hearts for his actions and had it upgraded to the MoH the following May.
