I had a Crockett Coonskin cap for years. My Mom finally threw it away as it was filthy and falling apart.

Great share. Crockett was a bitter enemy of Andrew Jackson. Crockett was a scout for a military expedition against the Creek Indians lead by Jackson. Jackson was so brutal to the Creek Indians Crockett deserted the expedition, Jackson hinted him down and forced him to rejoin. The US government opened “western” territory. Crockett wanted the land divided into 40 acre family farms giving hope to people land locked in the east. Jackson was in charge the land and sold it to plantation developers using the gang system. Jackson became wealthy on these land deals. The final straw was when Jackson backed candidate opposing Crockett named Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was telling lies about Crockett. Crockett stormed the stage to fight Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald pulled a gun on Crockett forcing Crockett to backdown. And you thought politics today are rough.
