WWII Japanese machine gun from the battle of Attu is returned to Alaska

This Machine gun used in the Battle of Attu Island, Alaska was presented to a museum in Whittier, Alaska. The Japanese Machine Gun was acquired by LTC William Lucas who led the charge. The Japanese Army left it behind during the Campaign/,Battle. This machine gun was used to kill some of the 500 American soldiers who lost their lives in 1943.

A Republican Senator from Alaska (seen at right)convinced the ATF not to destroy it. The Machine Gun was never registered by LTC Lucas. It was kept in a closet for 80 years.
