It's been nothing but a huge waste of taxpayer money.

As long as people are free to live in one state, then move to another, there MUST be certain standards for all public schools. I say that because of my own experience. So, unless all states could agree on every subject standard, the Federal government must set those standards.

As former candidate Brandon Herrera once stated: the closest we visibly came to being exactly like the Soviet Union was through the creation of the Department of Education.

SGT Aaron Atwood - Indoctrination.... Interesting. Do you know where indoctrination happens? In the church and in the military. These organizations have doctrine, and the people in these organizations are indoctrinated.

You may think reading, writing, and arithmetic are "indoctrination", but most people see these as fundamental skills. I know you have been told that schools indoctrinate, and you want to believe it, so you do, but I don't believe you know what "indoctrination" actually is. Just a scary word you like to throw around.

MSgt Steve Sweeney you know where it really happens, and is currently happening? College, grade school, and other places. There's a significant difference between being taught how to think vs what to think, and you're well into the latter vs the former based on what I see.

I come from a family of teachers as well as other trades. From the ground perspective I can tell you as will most others on here that indoctrination happens in our schools.

MSgt Steve Sweeney and we can even entertain the hypothetical that no semblance of indoctrination has ever happened between our country and the Soviet Union as a whole... But: the fact that unnamed bureaucrats, most of whom have never been in a classroom themselves once they were done with their own formal education, are dictating the lives of faculty and students (and tying the faculty's hands behind their back on many curriculum issues), makes the DoE an abomination in of itself as tends to happen in most bureaucracies.

SGT Aaron Atwood - Indoctrination between countries? WTF are you talking about? How are they dictating "the lives" of faculty and students? By setting rules and standards? What do you think the Department of Defense does?

The way you talk indicates you really do not understand the problem, just that you have been told their is a problem but don't have enough information to make a cogent argument about what the problem is.

How much time have you spent in classrooms, college or otherwise?
