Unfortunately he was the negotiator for the Palestinian side of the Hostage Negotiations that at least had some weight to carry them on. I don't think there is anyone who can legitimately continue, even if any hostages are still alive.

This "he was the negotiator" talking point is built on the presumption that he was acting as a "good faith negotiator" (same thing with the Israeli negotiators). That is an assumption, not an axiom. I'll await further details before I call this strike merited or unmerited.
