This isn't very new. I was staying in one of the Gatlinburg Downtown Hotels and got a phone call about 2am from the "night manager" claiming that their computers had crashed and they needed to know who was in the room. Half asleep still, I gave him name and address, then he started wanting payment information. The little bells started going off. I had booked the room though one of the travel sites, so I knew he hadn't had it in the first place. I just told him I would come down in the morning. That's when he threatened to have the sheriff throw me out. That also confirmed it was a scam.
A pretty slick one too, I might add.

Always good for people to remember, when they ask for cc info over the phone, treat it like a scam.
