He forgets because he doesn't feel responsible for them.
BTW, the Border Patrol says they did not and never would endorse him. Another lie.

The period around Aug-Sep 2021 was a very difficult one for most, if not all, of those that served in Afghanistan, to include myself. I was personally distraught, couldn't sleep for weeks, and Veteran friends even felt the need to check in on me. My wife could tell this period truly affected me profoundly, and did well to support me and give me space to deal with it. On 26 Aug 21 I concluded President Biden had become the worst President in my lifetime. By the time we ended the embarrassing and unnecessary pull-out, that conclusion encompassed this nation's history, and I stand by that assertion. His comment at the debate and the audacity to attack Trump on respect for the military (regardless of whether it is true) was unacceptable. He does not care for us, never did, and has gone on to use the death of his son (and uncle) simply to further his political agenda. Biden has proven he is unfit as Commander in Chief through his actions, not the hearsay words of a general who got fired and decided to lash out. I don't look at Trump as some great advocate to our military, that honor goes to President Regan, followed by both of the Bush Presidents in my mind. However, Trump comes from a different background that was not influenced by the military, so I really did not expect much from him.
