Mr. Pyle was combat correspondent's correspondent! He pulled no punches with his reporting, well with what they'd let him report, and he was the anti-Chris Wallace in his love of the American Fighting man! The sights and smells of Omaha were overwhelming to everyone and the results of the attack needed telling. I think the American psyche was okay with the casualties inthe European theater, much more so than the Paciic theater.
