I just have to say I love MAJ Byron Oyler's response.

Second, this seems like it would a thing kind of down on the list. We've had quadruple amputees and gunshot head wound victims survive their battlefield injuries. That's a great testament to how far we've come.

You never want to completely get rid of pain and it has a purpose. This article advocates for more ketamine and ketamine is a great medication for the right time and place and so is pain. Pain has a valuable purpose in that for any condition you should be coming off stronger pain meds in a certain period and if you are not two things have likely happened, you have grown a dependence or worse, your condition has worsened and needs further medical exploration. A perfect example in gall bladder removal, you absolutely should not need narcotic pain meds beyond 12-24 hours and if you do the chances for something having gone wrong with the procedure are hight. A closed fracture not needing surgery should not require strong pain meds after 12-24hours and if you do I begin worrying about compartment syndrome, a limb and life threat. Pain in unusual levels for your condition is a flag to explore further, not strive to rid the pain with more meds.

As a ICU nurse who has received patients from OR on ketamine drips..it has been a strange risf..some patients wake up easily and others are having horrible dreams and hallucinations.. and are swinging at whoever is at the bedside....I'm not a fan but in a battlefield situation perhaps it will work..but I'm not sure how you control the reactions....major you can probably give better information than I can.I just see homeless people standing like statues on the street after using ketamine...

Since it takes so long for the Morphine to reach full effect from muscling it, how about a main line hit Brother Dale?

Fair question. I recently finished coming off of opioids for the second time in 20 years. It's much easier now than it was in 2010 the first time I did it. . . .
