Illinois became the first state to prohibit book bans.
The law officially went into effect on Monday after Gov. JB Pritzker signed off on the law back in June.
The measure was in response to an increase in book bans in public libraries and schools in Republican states.
According to the American Library Association, there were 67 attempts to ban books in Illinois in 2022.

I am not in favor of a ban, however, I do support a restriction on who can checkout or see a book. Schools and children under the age of 16 or 18 should not be allowed to have access to Pornography (books that depict "Explicit Sexual Acts" weather in written or pictorial form) or books that promote Hatred or Racism. Unfortunately there is too much of that crap out there for them to see on their own.
