I posted my thoughts on fecalbook... basically a front iron sight still has its use in modern warfare.

The longer you expose yourself to an enemy, distracting yourself pressing a button on your optics to range the next shot, the better chance your offering your opponent a head shot... methinks the weapons system has to be pointed at the target to "range it". Might be just a millisecond, but with a good opponent, that's all they need.

So... squads as I recall were a team of 4, a 60, a 203/16, and 2-16's... I like the fact the 6.8 has better performance against a concealed opponent... but this isn't duck, super squirrel or deer hunting.

With the increased weight of the ammo and these optics, the squad doesn't need all 3 other members carrying this system. The best shooter needs one, then iron sight the other 2. The other 2 need to be trained on the system... but all 2 others don't need the added weight nor the 60 man.

Just sayin... common sense crap took over this morning.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - Weight... a factor even by the ounces...which end up being pounds... You want to move quick? Lighten the load there Major or keep it reasonable. Thanks for your service & Merry Christmas.

I'm ok with an optic like the ACOG/MCO that the Corps uses. There's no automatic calculation for range as there are set lines the shooter can use to make it work. With irons you'd have to manually adjust elevation for the same effect, and I recall doing that between the 200, 300, and 500 of Table 1.

ACOG also has a 4x magnification; something useful for those of us who are getting older and eyes that fatigue way more quickly than when we were 18+.

#1. Front sight, front sight , front sight, front sight....That is what you should be hearing when men/women are hunting men/women. Over and over again... Front sight, front sight, front sight. With a pistol its even simpler. There is no need for a rear sight with a pistol in close range shooting less than 50 feet. Front sight, front sight, front sight...

When the front sight comes up and begins to hit the target, pull the trigger twice as fast as you can. Every semi automatic weapon system I know, pulls up and to the right after a discharge. Your first round may be low on the target but the follow up will be where it needs to be, Thus? Creating 2 wound channels...When hunting men/women...faster blood loss equates to brain shutdown...brain shutdown equates to winning the gunfight.

Your shots do not have to be perfect in the front sight, front sight, front sight scenario, they just need to be on target, Then? If you can...follow up with a head shot aka failure drill if you see the target collapse, 2 to the chest one to the head.

This doesn't work really good on deer and super squirrels since it really fucks up the meat.

#2. When hunting an elk, deer, super squirrel and rabbit... you shouldn't be hearing anything except your foot steps walking on the ground and your heart beat in your head and every now and then, your breathing, (in my case... its tinnitus though).

Front sight is super quick, its not bulky, its weight is less than .01 of an ounce and when your practiced enough and you combine the two above?

Yep yep yep... all them super squirrels and men/women opponents ain't got shit on the hunter....Unless???

You call for artillery. Those fuckers just simply specialize in urban redevelopment. lol...

SSgt Clare May The ACOG is battle proven, and has been since Marines have been using it in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Investigations were made because of how quickly and accurately Marines were getting head shots.

I'm not saying shooting fundamentals need to go wayside, but the ACOG shouldn't go anywhere (except perhaps more economic so those of us who aren't four stars can afford one or more).

Thinking I may need to upgrade my optics.
I hope they come to market with a semi-automatic version of the rifle.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - I won’t say how much exactly how many rounds of ammo I have, but the storage requires a second safe and it is full. Hooyah!
