Personally, I don't care how long the run up to an election is. I think it separates the weak from the strong candidates. And I stopped loving candidates and elected officials a long time ago. They are tools to get things done. Nothing more,nothing less.
But I do hate candidates and elected officials a vast majority ofthe time. Especially those who put pet projects ahead of the common good.

I'll add that, with how long "election season" is, these days, they are also "too frequent." Obviously fixing one will fix the other. But both combined means that we have about 3 months - December in an even year - February in an odd year, where we are campaign free. And even that can be marred by post-election wrangling, cutting it down to about a month and a half.
