Volunteers carry out 90 percent of the humanitarian work of the Red Cross. They help victims of disaster; provide care and comfort to ill and injured service members and veterans; teach lifesaving skills such as First Aid and CPR; help at blood drives and much more.
What's more, Red Cross volunteers respond to an average of more than 62,000 disasters every year. They help train more than 6.2 million people in Red Cross lifesaving skills; assist in providing more than 442,000 services to military members, veterans and their families; and help reconnect more than 8,000 families separated by war or disaster around the world. In addition, roughly 2.7 million volunteer donors give blood every year.
