As I was perusing interesting Physics and Science in general "Shorts", I came across a great "Short" about Planet Mars and Communications capabilities or the lack there of!
Note that we, the United States, appear to be moving ahead with the idea of creating an outpost on both Mars and our Moon... The Moon is close to us since it rotates around our Planet Earth, but Mars is another story as its orbit is around the sun and is not equidistant from the Sun and accordingly not Planet Earth either... Remember, the long held adage that "Time is a huge detractor when it comes to communication over long distances, as electronic data transfer only travels at the speed of light... This "Short" covers this detail pretty well...

Interesting. Simple HF communications on earth have time lags so I can only imagine the issues involved in communicating with Mars.

Communications will be an interesting thing at that distance. Back to the familygram days on the boat.

Remember fiber optics being used for civilian communication?? Guess what Nasa and motorola may have come up with to communicate in space between Earth and the Astronauts. If not that, then using the capsule as a transponder/ signal booster / capacitor ??

Distance is the major factor in space given the distances when Earth and Mars are at opposite points from the sun. Can't use fiber optics for the distances between celestial objects... Between Earth and the Moon, there isn't that a significant issue...

Sgt (Join to see) could satellites be positioned geosynchratic to do a line of sight restrengthening and passing of the com on to the next satellite , and then to Mars?
