As a Postal Service Mail Handler Retiree (30yrs service) I know our Mail Carriers are at risk. The route have no protection. The general public has a right to be watchful and if possible snap a photo and report it to the FBI. The heavy season is aproaching. Thank You , PO1 William Chip Hayden

One. The Postal Service does have their own Police Force. It called the Postal Police. Their main job is security of Postal Buildings and patrols. They also show up if there is altercations between employees. The Postal Inspectors were created by Benjamin Franklin for security of the mail. It is the oldest law enforcement agency. They have multiple teams that specialize in different areas. They focus on outside the Postal Service for the protection of the mail and employees. The Postal Service also has the OIG which also has law enforcement agents. These agents are mainly internal agents protecting the mail from employees committing crimes.
I spent 10 years as a carrier and got threatened once by a guy as I was putting mail in a cluster box. I closed up the box and drove down the street and called and reported it to my boss. My wife at the time became a Postal Inspector and we relocated so I became a custodian and retired after 24 years.
