Slavery has been practiced by virtually every culture, starting in Africa and reaching the western world. Have slaves, been slaves throughout history. I think South Carolina had the most black slave owners.

We know this...some religious groups did not own others but virtually everyone else did

Fact check: Stat grossly misleading about slave ownership in 1860

A Twitter post from 2019, reshared on Facebook in 2021, claims 1.6% of US citizens owned slaves in 1860. That downplays slave ownership at that time.
