I always found it ironic and hypocritical that so many southern men considered their black slaves as something less that human, and yet quick to jump into bed with one.

And people wonder why more is not taught about slavery in K-12? It is difficult enough for grown adults to learn about the worst of it. I will always support allowing children to enjoy their innocence as long as possible - though it no longer seems possible for it to last long.

I understand the perspective. Black American children don't have the luxury of waiting to learn about slavery and its effects even today.

SGT (Join to see) - That had occurred to me, except it always depends on the parents, and the community. The worst of all our nation's atrocities (and there is a huge variety), for all young children, can wait until they are older, imo, both at home and school.

SGT Charlie Lee - True. However, generalizing about history for young children is not necessarily inaccurate, simply because of not dumping all the gory details into the lives of young children when teaching them history. Unless they ask for more details, high school is soon enough, imo.
