Competitive, warm and conservative: what exactly makes someone a dog person?

Lt Col Charlie Brown Each critter has their own plus and minuses. We used to have both but now indoors just dogs. We do have a stray cat that is still, four years later skittish and rarely lets us touch it but we continue to take care of her (including getting her fixed).
