I want to say "lies and more lies" but I will refrain and just say "unsubstantiated" claims that they used to force people's behaviors.

From personal observation.... You could look at 100 different people who had masks on during the peak of Covid-19. 95 of them were wearing the mask incorrectly. I saw everything from noses uncovered to hanging by the loop from one ear. I watched multiple people remove their mask so they could talk on their cell phone. I won't even get into the whole "mask from a T-shirt pulled up over their mouth" thing. I don't know how we could ever say one way or the other whether masks were effective when the overwhelming majority were not wearing one appropriately.
I work in healthcare. We had "fit tested" N95 masks, single use gloves, and virucide sprays out the wazoo. Most of us still contracted C19 at some point.

"Strong Conclusions Despite Lack of Evidence" I've heard of this somewhere before.
