Many of the people who died in Phoenix during a record-breaking heat wave in July lived outdoors without shelter. But according to the Maricopa County Health Department, at least 81 people succumbed to heat injuries inside a building — victims of a broken or unused air-conditioning unit.
It makes you wonder: What if this desert city was better designed to protect against the deadly heat that is inevitably coming with climate change?

We could certainly do a better job of building spaces to contend with heat/cold/extremes of weather

For as long as people can remember Phoenix was/is a hot desert climate. Fo people want to change this now? Good luck with that.

We do have a lot of migrant deaths during our summers but we have cut those deaths to zero due to an ordinance change. We have a cooling ordinance here. The only one in Texas. We did have a lot die every years but the change prohibited temps of over 90 degrees in public buildings like schools and rental properties.
