It may not be about NATO, but NATO needs to accept some of the responsibility for the situation. Putin transmitted his intensions. If NATO had come back with "Ukraine will not be part of NATO, it should remain neutral. We will not station missiles in Ukraine as the same time Mr. Putin, you must stay out as well. You and your allies, no support for any type of actions in Ukraine. If you do, we will stomp a mudhole in your ass". Then we need to go back to 2014, NATO turned a blind eye to this action. Putin is the "school yard" bully. Treat him as such, it would have stopped. Yet, NATO, USA turned a blind eye. Putin respect power, strength, not pussywhipped, weak leaders like Obama and Biden. He saw the chances at the the times and took advantage of those times.
Just my personal opinion.

Nato benefits lots of other countries a hell of a lot more than it does tye USA.

NATO is worthless Brother Dale. Let them clean up their own messes.
