The Pacific was a totally different war and it was known it would be. Japan and it military showed the world it would give no quarter while conducting operations in Manchuria and China.
Then came the Goettge patrol on Guadalcanal. And the cannibalism on New Guinea. The Japanese forgot the old adage 'fuck around and find out'. They set the stage and the Allies wrote the play and the finale.

I got both, they 're different scenario Europe and Pacific, I think both 're the great pictures Major

I concur. Presidio Press published Eugene Sledge's memoir. Absolutely one of the best military memoirs ever! He was a heck of a guy. Wish I'd had the time to get to know him better. I also like Leckie's book.
Frankly, the two wars were entirely different and I think both did great jobs. I own both and I'm really looking forward to the new series HBO is doing on the 100th Bomb Group!

Helmet for My Pillow and With the Old Breed by Leckie and Sledge respectively are gritty reads and are first hand accounts of the hellish nature of the Pacific Theater of War. I found So Sad to Fall in Battle another solid account of the war in the Pacific (both book and movie) albeit told from a Japanese vantagepoint
