I got to GTMO in June of 2004. We were already sending detainees home at that time.
My unit ran the security for the first four tribunals. The so-called secret justice system allowed the Red Cross in, and the media was at each tribunal.
I know, because the Miami Herald writer called me every name in the book when I stopped her from taking mini binoculars into the court room. She wanted to read the prosecutions papers when held them up. She bought them at the BX, she didn't get them back.
