"a threat to the public or a flight risk" was ALWAYS the standard for setting bail. The problem isn't that cash bail is eliminated, the problem is judges who refuse to recognize that violent criminals are a threat to the public.

Watch the crime rate soar further!
-----------------------------------------------------
On Tuesday, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled in favor of eliminating the state's cash bail system. The ruling takes effect Sept. 18, making Illinois the first state to fully abolish cash bail.
Under the new law, judges across Illinois will not require those charged with a crime to post bail in order to be released from jail while they await trial, unless the judge determines them a threat to the public or a flight risk.

Look at Commifornia. They did nearly the same thing and crime is ridiculous! They don't want to offend fentanyl dealers so they a refusing to tell them if they kill someone with their drugs they will get longer prison sentences. And the idiot governor is closing prisons, they don't want to put people in prisons for crimes anymore as they feel is is discriminatory to put criminals in jail

They missed the opportunity to lock them up when they had the chance. That’s the issue.
