PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I think coloring books are a great tool for trauma therapy. They can be subject related or random that allow the brain to slow down the fight/flight response. They can help change the focus from the trauma to making a pattern with colors. Art in general has long been considered a prime therapeutic tool. Some people draw, write, color, carve, build, paint. There is a yearly art show featuring veteran art at The Robert Dole VA every year.

Anything that can avail the opportunity to apply one's mental acuity AWAY from that which is causing one distress - would definitely help trauma victims.
