Individual cigarettes in Canada will soon carry health warnings

Canada will soon become the first country in the world where warning labels must appear on individual cigarettes.
The move was first announced last year by Health Canada and is aimed at helping people quit the habit. The regulations take effect Aug. 1 and will be phased in. King-size cigarettes will be the first to feature the warnings and will be sold in stores by the end of July 2024, followed by regular-size cigarettes, and little cigars with tipping paper and tubes by the end of April 2025.
"This bold step will make health warning messages virtually unavoidable," Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett said Wednesday.
The warnings — in English and French — include "poison in every puff," "tobacco smoke harms children" and "cigarettes cause impotence."
Health Canada said the strategy aims to reduce tobacco use below 5% by 2035. New regulations also strengthen health-related graphic images displayed on packages of tobacco.

Wow. But if you don't read the package, why should the wrapper make a difference

People are addicts here in Canada and they added ammonia to cigarettes years ago as one of its main ingredients to make you get addicted so it's not going to work. Cigarettes are everywhere and so are casinos and the government makes money off of both of them so virtue signaling with extra labeling on each individual cigarette is going to make no difference. Most of the panhandlers I see around town, would have mental issues, are always smoking cigarettes as they are begging for money. Cigarettes cost about $13 a pack and up. It is just a money making machine for each province.
It appears here that more people smoke than not and the young don't care because they smoke anyway. I have two step daughters who are both on public assistance and they both smoke all the time. They are also both drunks and druggies. Both have gone to rehab and both have relapsed.
