A year after Uvalde's school massacre, healing remains elusive

In the year since 19 children and two teachers were killed inside their classrooms at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, the search for healing has been elusive.
Many victims' relatives have said healing cannot begin without closure. But closure has been impossible, because 12 months later there are still many unresolved questions about what happened that day — most stemming from the failed police response. It took officers an agonizing 77 minutes to enter the classroom and kill the gunman. It was more than an hour during which some of the victims slowly bled to death.
Details about precisely what happened, which victims might have survived if police had acted faster, and why the law enforcement response failed so miserably are the subject of ongoing local, state and federal investigations. Many surviving families are pinning their hopes for closure on their findings. Others are skeptical. But in the meantime, much of the community is suspended in its grief, grasping still for a narrative of what happened on that tragic day, and searching for ways to cope.

The sheriff and his response are to blame.
And we need to stop the no guns signs and seriously secure our schools

Due to the very sudden and violent nature of the deaths, these wounds will never really heal. Families who violently loss their children face the ongoing deprivation of their precious youth.

This is definitely a tragedy and healing may never happen for some.
However; I'm always bothered by the "if" questions.
It doesn't matter now, what would have happened "if" . . . .
The events happened as they were, and there is no appropriate answer for a "what if" question, because we don't know and we'll never know. One can only speculate, which will cause more mental and emotional trauma, instead of healing.
I do believe people should be held accountable for their actions or lack of action. But what's the most you can do to the sheriff and his team, fire them for a poor response and don't allow them to serve in law enforcement again, ever? Salvador Ramos is the person responsible for pulling the trigger and he has met his maker.
The other critical portion of this event, what are police agencies, around the country, doing to learn and improve their tactics, because of this event. How are schools changing their policies and procedures to prevent this from happening again?
Just my opinion., we need to have reliable armed staff members in every school. Training can improve anyone's confidence with weapons handling.
