This was not a self defense situation as it was explained on the news. He simply rang the doorbell at the wrong address, the Homeowner should be charged. Attempted Homicide would be about right.

Then there was another shooting that was even worse, I missed where it happened but a car was turning around in a driveway, no one got out, the homeowner came out shooting and killed one of the passengers.

Both incidents should not have occurred and both shooters should be prosecuted to the fullest.
At night if my doorbell rings, I will ask the person to step out of the alcove so I can see them. Yes, I do have a firearm on me when this happens. If the person fails to step out where they can be seen, I would call 911 and step away from the door and window.
