I moved to St Thomas in 1959 just as Griffith was hitting his stride. Griffith wasn’t homosexual, he was bisexual and so stated. St Thomas had a very machismo culture. Homosexuals were called anti men. I don’t think Paret was homophobic as much as he wanted to rattle Griffith. Griffith’s sexual preferences were kept quite. I didn’t hear much about it until decades later. If people on St Thomas knew of Griffith’s sexual proclivities they would have dropped him.
