“And there are only a few soldiers with combat experience. Unfortunately, they are all already dead or wounded.” - 'Kupol' - callsign for a battalion commander in the Ukrainian 46th Air Assault Brigade.
I would modify that statement just a bit in that "we started with only a few....". I see what's happening in Ukraine with personnel to be very much akin to America during Viet Nam. As any of our Viet Nam vets will attest - you get your combat experience very quickly or you don't come back.

If Wagner fails, the onus will be on their other Private Mercenary organizations. Once they start losing men, as Wagner has, things will turn around in Moscow. Russians have already been taking to the streets against the war.
They've lost half their tanks and artillery. They are down 100k+ in troops. Yes, they can play the long game, but I really expect an escalation if it goes much longer. The face they have lost in a war with a former satellite state stings, and escalation is really the only way to show the might of the Bear.

Perhaps, but I don't buy the casualties nor losses. We see and hear only what they want us to see and hear. All I read about are T-72 tanks, yet there are thousands of next gen Russian tanks (T-80s, T-90s, T-14s) that have probably been kept in reserve, and the same with crack troops. Escalation would only be necessary if the West gets directly involved, IMO, and Russia has only yet jabbed and not punched.
