The city of Phoenix, Arizona, wants to hire at least 30 people as fast as they can start. The department is understaffed across the board.
In addition to new officers, which are currently at a premium due to scarcity, the desert city got approval to “add 25 police civilian investigators,” assigned to cover “administrative tasks in violent and property crimes.” Along with that, they will work with the drug enforcement bureau. Insiders report that administration is working hard to identify routine police “job functions that can be performed by civilians.” To get more actual officers on the street, Phoenix started offering hiring bonuses up to $7,500 as well as “retention bonuses to keep officers.”

Lt Col Charlie Brown A lot of police departments are hurting right now. With all the news about how officers are being charged with all kinds of crimes I could see why few want to join the force.

Who would want to be a Police Officer now days. With the war on blue it's no wonder we are at where we are. And with the mass influx of illegal's how bad does it have to get before our Government will do something about it. And when recruitment is down, what suffers the most, the standards of the individual. We get what we sow...

Gee, I wonder why? Could it be that liberal Phoenix voted that people can sue the officer directly, or the ROEs are so restrictive that if there is any push back you place yourself at risk? Hmmm, wonder why they are having trouble keeping or hiring officers? Lt Col Charlie Brown
