We had a place in Dahlonega that I bought when #2 son was at Univ of North GA. When he graduated we used it for vacations. One of the neighbors had free range chickens. It was the danged rooster that would crow at inopportune times that I didn’t care for. Thankfully, my subdivision doesn’t allow raising chickens.

Maj Robert Thornton I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints form 1984 to 1986. I served in Gainesville from May to November of '85, and we use to frequent Dahlonega since we had missionaries there as well. We always enjoyed going to Dahlonega, it was a cool little town.

You should have bought that rooster, if he kept going off, as you...
Ok, I am joking and sorry that any "bird" ever messes with folk around them.
Sorry, couldn't resist the pun!

I don't need to. My next door neighbors have them, and they get into my yard... ;-)

On a unrelated topic, how's that class on, "the easy way to process and butcher chicken" coming?

COL Randall C. - Here are the Cilff Notes:
1:Grab the bird by the neck.
2: Swing it in a circle above your head.
3: Use a hatchet to chop off the head .
4: Let the bird wander around as the blood spout out of the neck.
5: Drop it into boiling water
6: Pluck the feathers.
7: Gut it, bread it and cook it in whatever way you prefer.
8: Wash the feathers to fill pillows or fill quilts for those long, cold nights when the wood stove goes out and you can't pry the frozen firewood off the ground.

We've raised them before, both "free range" and couped.
Lt Col Charlie Brown Wanna guess which eggs tasted best? Yep, those free range eggs, prolly cuz we had to actually work as hard to find them as the hens did to hide them!

PFC Edgar Mosier - Those were after my time in school. I was in the Army, and trying to figure out what the burnt things were, on my tray at the mess hall. :(
