Look, I don't like the huge chunk they have of our budget but I have to ask. Does anyone want to go back to a military like we had pre-WW1 or pre-WW2? The Atlantic and Pacific aren't the obstacles they were back then. It took us almost a full year to begin offensive operations in the Pacific and in North Africa and another year after that in the air over Europe. With the ways things are now, we won't have that much time for building up our forces.

And I have to be honest, he lost me with his including Smedley Butler to reinforce his argument. Butler served for 34 years and if he felt that war was a racket, he could have resigned in protest of that racket. Many others with that conviction have, but he didn't. He stayed until retirement. If he hated the racket so much, why did he stay until he could retire?

SPC Bill Bailey I'm there with you regarding the DOD. Overruns are the order of the day and weapons systems seem to be built with knowledge they'll get extra money to make them work. The latest carriers are an example and the Bradley is another off the top of my head.

LTC Trent Klug - The USS Ford is getting the kinks worked out and the Bradley seems to work okay, but there are SO many others ......

SPC Bill Bailey The.Navy said it would cost 10.5billion back in 2007, as of last year its cost us 13.3 billion and is still having more money sunk into it.

LTC Trent Klug - Agreed, everything has gone up, show me a weapons system that hasn't. But when you're testing all new launch/recovery systems never used before it takes time/money. As of now both seem to be working reliably or as reliably as a completely new system can. The ship has been cleared for active duty. There will prob. be more new bugs to work out, but the biggest ones have been taken care of.

We have to remember that we don't want democracy, we want our constitutional republic back. Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what's for lunch.

Exactly so! Young people today--and far too many adults who should know better--are clueless about how our government was designed to operate by the Founders. We are NOT a democracy. We are a democratic republic carefully crafted to avoid the excesses of the democratic mobs.
