"Gaetz responded to Nadler’s opposition exclusively to the Daily Caller, saying, “Standing for the American flag isn’t controversial. Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance isn’t a waste of time. Democrats are so outraged at the idea of a daily dose of patriotism that they spent 30 minutes ranting and raving in opposition. Congress cannot expect the American people to believe they are fighting for their values when they don’t even care to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.”"
I think it was more of the fact of Gates personally wanting to lead reciting it because he's a raging POS and shouldn't even be in Congress. He should be in jail because he's a sexual predator who preyed on teenage girls.
The pledge of allegiance is a waste of time actually. Why are we trying to have people pledge allegiance? I never understood why in this country we want to force people to recite a pledge to the country in schools, etc. Sounds very authoritarian to me.
I already don't believe that anyone in Congress is fighting for "values" whether they say the pledge or not. Lol. Of all people to talk about values, really Matt?

Very interesting response, SFC. Ever take an oath before, or stand at attention saluting the flag, or sing the National Anthem? Ever belong to an organization that has traditions, purpose greater than oneself, and values? LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY, and PERSONAL COURAGE? If those sound familiar, they were born in blood, sweat and tears, along with this country. Rep. Gaetz, like all Americans except Donald Trump, is INNOCENT until proven guilty. You are not judge and jury. If he is guilty of something a jury of his peers will tell us that after a proper trial. Saying the Pledge is visceral to those who believe in the foundation of this country and believe in those values, and in Freedom, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. By the way, students may not be compelled to say the Pledge, but many schools require them to stand out of respect. Communists have an aversion to pledges and oaths, they are like the cross to a vampire. They don't like pledges or promises because they like to make things up as they go along. They are Pagan utilitarians who believe, "If it feels good, do it," and "If it's useful to me, it's good." Which are you? A loyal patriot, or an evil communist?

MAJ Montgomery Granger - Taking an oath for joining the military is not the same as forcing children to pledge allegiance to a flag. Thank goodness we can't make kids or anyone recite it though. I've told my daughter if she doesn't want to say it she doesn't have to and no one can stop her from sitting during it.
Following military customs, courtesies and regulations is NOT the same thing as forcing people to take a pledge to a flag. You know this. Also the oath is to support and defend the Constitution NOT pledging allegiance to a piece of cloth.
"Saying the Pledge is visceral to those who believe in the foundation of this country and believe in those values, and in Freedom, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." --- No it's not. That's your opinion.
"By the way, students may not be compelled to say the Pledge, but many schools require them to stand out of respect." -- Nope can't force them to stand either. If anyone ever forces my child to stand for it or recite it I'll be at the principal's office.

That's not true at all. No people who want to force someone to pledge allegiance are authoritarians. Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable in North Korea or Russia if you think forcing people to pledge allegiance is a good thing.
