Nebraska considers using veterans to help address teacher shortage

MY SAY: This is a good idea because the military uses basic, effective pedagogy that every military person can draw from. Why? Because lives depend on learning in the military.

PS - I am retired after 36 years in education, first, as a health and physical education teacher, dean and coach, then as an administrator and Director of HPE&A. My masters degree from Teachers College - Columbia University was in Curriculum and Teaching. My experience in the military training programs was excellent (I joined AFTER my masters degree), and I used materials from my combat medic training in my New York City Public High School Health classroom to great effect. The materials are written no higher than the 6th grade level, have practical and efficient learning modules and provide clear graphic illustrations, simplifying sometimes complex concepts. I believe that any competent military person could draw on their military learning experiences and apply them in the classroom successfully. Hooah!
