This shouldn't surprise the Russians, they deployed female Snipers themselves.

One of the last classes of Ukrainian troops I trained had two females. Despite direct one-on-one coaching, they took twice as long as the men to zero their rifles. When it came to fire and movement, the Ukrainian commander felt it necessary to coach the female in my lane every step of the way. Yes, a company commander ran right behind a female private for the entire course of fire and movement to ensure she didn't do anything stupid and to load her rifle for her because she was physically incapable. She still did stupid stuff, firing a rifle as you would a grenade launcher without sights (angled up and looking over the rifle, as if the bullets will fall down in fifty yards to hit the target). The other female was somewhat more competent and aggressive, although she still took just as long to zero her rifle. I also observed (surprise, surprise) that the men treated them like women, not like soldiers. "Oh, you're cold sitting here in the barracks as the TMG instructors teach TCCC? I'll go get you my coat."
