As a sailor that spent 24 years in the navy, with most of them at sea, I found this narrative very interesting. Those Airedales that flew those missions were fearless, and many KNEW they would not survive! It is no wonder they were called the "Greatest Generation!".

Definitely not one of the finer moments of WW2. Why would you think setting a 30 minute timer on explosives was a good thing?
